Property Industry Breakfast

Property Industry Breakfast

28 July, 2011

On 28 July 2011, Melbourne’s leading real estate recruitment firm hosted a breakfast seminar to hear from industry experts about the trends shaping the property sector today.

Buckmaster Hawkey Director, Mark Appleby spoke of the rise of Generation Y and how the latest generation are changing the face of Australia’s workforce. Employee relations expert Charles Cameron, a Principal of the FCB Group, investigated the rising numbers of people working as independent contractors and how this trend clashed with Australia’s antiquated approach to employment agreements.

Perhaps the most controversial presentation came from Buckmaster Hawkey Director, Jeanette Hockney. In a candidate short market, many agencies are struggling to maintain their team of property managers. To address this situation, Jeanette presented Buckmaster Hawkey’s “Structured Portfolio Approach” which incorporates an assistant manager level into a traditional agency structure which increases flexibility and reduces business costs.

John Higginbotham of The Collins Street Consultancy Group and Joe Galati of Global Rent Roll Services presented on placing a value of a real estate business and relayed the surprising news that the second quarter had seen an uptick in the enquiries for rent roll businesses.
